Danny Trejo is a distinguished Hollywood actor known for his frequent roles as tough antihero characters. He gained notable fame for his roles in films like Machete (2010), Spy Kids (2001), Heat (1995), and From Dusk Till Dawn (1996), which showcased his versatility in action and drama.

Now Trejo is stepping into a new role as he joins an iconic group of actors who bring life to HISTORY Channel’s “strange and unusual” mystery shows, including Dan Aykroyd in The UnBelievable and William Shatner in The UnXplained.

Trejo has high praise for Shatner’s work, sharing, “I love the way he leaves you hanging.” Speaking warmly of his encounters with the actor, Trejo adds, “He’s a wonderful man. I see him all the time at different comic cons.”

“History was probably the only good grade I ever got.” –Danny Trejo

Trejo’s passion for discovery and connecting with the past offers viewers an engaging and relatable perspective. “You know, history was probably the only good grade I ever got,” Trejo admits. He remembers being fascinated by the mysteries of the past from a young age, often wondering “how we got here.”

So when the opportunity to host Mysteries Unearthed came his way, it was an easy decision. “Unexplained mysteries, I love that stuff. So when I got the chance, absolutely.”

More recently, Trejo witnessed excavations at the Templo Mayor site during a trip to Mexico City. The ancient Aztec temple, dating back to 1325 CE, remained hidden until 1978, when electricians accidentally stumbled upon it—just 46 years ago. Excavations are still in progress today.

“We were watching them dig like they do on the HISTORY Channel,” he recalls. “I was actually watching them with little brushes, brushing things off. It was amazing to see,” he says.

Ordinary People, Extraordinary Finds

What excites Trejo most about Mysteries Unearthed is the thrill of real-life discoveries made entirely by chance. He says the show takes viewers on a journey, revealing how ordinary people unknowingly uncover important pieces of history where they least expect it.

“You know, people have found stuff by surprise,” says Trejo. “It’s just so amazing that this can happen to anybody. You go to the beach and find a staircase leading down to something, and it’s like, ‘My God! Look!’”

Trejo believes that discoveries like these can happen to anyone, anywhere. He emphasizes that while many assume they need expensive equipment and tools, remarkable finds are sometimes right in their own backyard.

When asked which discovery he found most fascinating in the series, Trejo replied, “It’s hard to pick out one.” Highlighting a range of finds, from buried warships and Roman shrines to cultural artifacts and hidden caves, he added, “It’s all really interesting. I think that you will be highly impressed at the way they did this.”
