Traveling to Tulum, Mexico, was made significantly easier thanks to Delta Airlines’ new nonstop flights coming in March 2024.
In the past, one of the most popular destinations in Mexico for United States travelers to visit has typically been Cancun, Mexico.
Many U.S. travelers have frequented Cancun looking for fabulous all-inclusive resorts and vacation rentals, a vibrant party atmosphere, beautiful beaches, delicious Mexican cuisine, exciting nightlife, or as a lively destination for spring breakers looking to soak up the Mexico sun.
Tulum’s Popularity on the Rise
Recently, Tulum has risen in popularity in the last few years due to its laid-back atmosphere, beautiful white sand beaches, delicious cuisine, lush greenery, and gorgeous jungle scenery.
More specifically, Tulum has grown as a vacation spot for United States travelers thanks to its spectacular yoga studios, proximity to one of the Seven Wonders of the World, Chichén Itzá, its abundance of cenotes, charming boutique hotels, and eco-parks like Xel-Há.
In the past, it has been quite a strenuous adventure for United States travelers looking to get to Tulum. The most common way to get to Tulum was by flying into the Cancún International Airport. Upon arrival, travelers must embark on an hour-and-a-half drive to Tulum. This required U.S. travelers to spend an entire day traveling in the air and on the road until they reached their desired resort or accommodation option in Tulum.
This will no longer be the case as Delta Airlines announced they will serve nonstop flights from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Tulum beginning March 28th, 2024.
Delta’s New Route to Tulum
Delta’s new route is made possible due to the new construction of Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport in Tulum, which is set to open in December 2023.
This new flight route will be offered daily and all year round, operated on a Boeing 737-800. This intricately designed aircraft features 108 economy seats, 36 Comfort+ seats, and 16 recliners for first-class passengers. Regardless of which class you fly, you can enjoy the Delta Studio’s complimentary entertainment of over 1,000 hours of TV shows and movies.
This new route from Atlanta to Tulum benefits Tulum-bound passengers who live and fly out of Atlanta.
Delta has only announced that their Atlanta hub will be servicing Tulum.
However, Delta also services flights to more than 100 United States cities from Atlanta. This makes traveling to Tulum much easier, as you can now travel to Tulum with one easy connection in Atlanta for those looking to journey from different U.S. cities.
The Senior Vice President of Network Planning for Delta Airlines, Joe Esposito, said, “Delta is uniquely positioned to give customers convenient and direct access from the U.S. to Tulum, a premium leisure destination known for its boutique hotels, Mayan ruins, and eco-friendly spirit. We know Tulum-bound customers will enjoy the elevated experience Delta consistently offers and now without a two-hour drive from Cancun, as we grow our footprint in Mexico and throughout the Yucatan region.”
Flights From ATL to Tulum
This new Delta Airlines route from the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport will make traveling between the United States and Tulum much more convenient for those exploring more of Mexico.
Delta Airlines is the first United States carrier to announce upcoming routes to Tulum but most likely will not be the only U.S. carrier to do so. Due to Tulum’s growing popularity, United States tourists and travel enthusiasts are hoping for many U.S. airline carriers to follow in Delta’s footsteps in the upcoming months.
